Recent decades have seen innovation stalled or rejected in a number of technologies. Nuclear power has been unable to roll out plans for new reactor designs. Genetic modification of crops was effectively rejected by Europe. The flow of new pharmaceutical drugs has slowed to a trickle. Ride-sharing apps have been banned in many cities.
While many states have already loosened their lockdowns enough to avoid a similar judicial smackdown, it is important to declare unconstitutional all measures that crossed the line into tyrannical power grab so, like the unconstitutional internment of Americans during World War II, it never happens again.
Many parents who were on autopilot may suddenly be realizing that public schools—even when they were physically open—weren’t that much of a bargain after all. Parents can suddenly see exactly what is being taught to their children. They can see the quality of the teachers. They can learn about the content of the educational materials. Many parents may not like what they see,
It is the true economy and the integrity of society that the government should protect or promote. Lockdowns do the exact opposite. They fracture us, harm us, and weaken us all. If maintained long enough, they will disintegrate us.
Government cannot ever play investor, lender, or anything else. And it needn’t play those roles. The only answer, as always, is to end the lockdowns as soon as possible so that businesses can resume with market-disciplined investors and the marketplace itself guiding their decisions.
Forecasting is a delicate balance of probabilities. But people want certainty, especially when the stakes are high. The people who make forecasting models probably have less faith in their accuracy than those who read them, if only because things like confidence intervals are rarely discussed in the media.
Virtually all Democratic Governors have overreached their legitimate mandates, and few show any inclination to relinquish their newfound authority. These governors behave as if they recognize no legal boundaries.

The argument is for allowing the market to define the strategy. For example, the elderly might consider taking chloroquine preventively; it has a long history of being taken to prevent malaria in Africa. It is naïve to think that people can’t inform themselves and take appropriate actions for their own health benefits.
Some especially out-of-touch pro-shutdown “COVID Warriors” rationalize it all by insisting that these prohibitions on earning a living are, as Dr. Anthony Fauci claims, mere inconveniences. It’s easy to see why someone like Fauci might think this way. His government salary is $400,000 dollars, and there is little risk he’ll be missing any mortgage payments any time soon.
