If you asked someone to describe the ideal entrepreneur, they might describe a person who is ambitious, resourceful, creative, energetic, self-motivated, and adaptable. They might say that an entrepreneur achieves success by disrupting the status quo with an innovative service or product that improves people’s lives. If you asked us to describe the ideal individualist, we might say the very same things.
Of course, individualism is about more than just business. But individualism applied to business is entrepreneurship. If entrepreneurs are the drivers of economic and social progress, you might think of individualism as their philosophical fuel. Individualism celebrates the virtues of self-reliance, personal liberty, and individual initiative that are essential for entrepreneurial success.
Individualism, the Entrepreneur, and Society
Just as the entrepreneur relies on individualist values to build his or her business, society relies on entrepreneurs to actualize the potential benefits of individualism. Entrepreneurs seek out opportunities to solve the needs of others in ever more efficient and effective ways. They understand that their own personal success is dependent upon their ability to create value in the lives of others. Thus, the entrepreneur promotes the common good while pursuing his or her own aspirations. This is the very core of individualism.
Though today’s entrepreneur has an abundance of resources at his or her disposal, the road to success is filled with challenges. Anti-individualist sentiments are on the rise, and barriers such as government regulation and social conformity prevent many would-be entrepreneurs from achieving their dreams. We believe that a revival of individualism in America is the spark that we need to launch us into greater heights of social and economic progress. In light of this, CFI seeks to support entrepreneurs in two ways:
- By promoting individualist values such as self-reliance and personal liberty, we seek to create the cultural foundation necessary for entrepreneurial success
- By offering content, resources, and services, we hope to equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools that they need to succeed.
- By creating a community of individualist, entrepreneurial innovators to share knowledge, experience, ideas and and services, we aim to be a catalyst of momentum and critical mass in the individualist movement.
